Certification

 

ALP : For someone who has three years or less legal experience, and/or has passed an accredited business/legal course or the NALS Legal Training Course, or has one year of general office experience.

PLS/CLP :  For any person who has three years’ experience in the legal field. A partial waiver of the three-year legal experience requirement may be granted for post-secondary degrees, successful completion of the ALS exam, or other certifications. The maximum waiver is one year.

Professional Paralegal : For any person who has five years’ experience performing paralegal/legal assistant duties, is a graduate from an ABA approved Paralegal Program, hold a Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, is a graduate from an accredited paralegal program which consists of a minimum of 60 semester hours of which a minimum of 15 hours is substantive law, or holds a Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field and has one year of experience performing paralegal/legal assistant duties.

Membership in NALS is not a requirement.
